Assistant Professor at UdeM

I am an Assistant Professor in the Département de linguistique et de traduction at the Université de Montréal. My work centers on the description, documentation, and analysis of Mayan languages, with a particular focus on Chuj, a language spoken in Guatemala, Mexico, and in diaspora communities across North America, including Montréal.

Research interests

The theoretical component of my research investigates linguistic variation, especially in the domains of syntax and semantics, and examines how Mayan languages can inform our understanding of the nature and limits of crosslinguistic variation. I have engaged with a wide range of topics, including nominal syntax and semantics, binding and coreference, prosodic phrasing, modality, ergativity, hierarchy effects, argument structure, quantification, ellipsis, and interrogative syntax. In addition to my theoretical work, I am involved in language documentation, particularly through the recording, transcription, and analysis of narratives and traditional stories.
